Sashimi
What is sashimi?
Sashimi is a selection of thinly sliced seafood (usually raw).
In simplified terms, it could be said that sashimi is nigiri without rice but that is not the only difference. It is important to add that sashimi is actually not sushi because it lacks the ingredient that defines sushi – rice sprinkled with vinegar. Unlike sushi, sashimi is prepared with raw meat/fish and there are no cooked varieties.
Sashimi is an appetizer in Japan. In order to preserve the natural flavour of fish, sashimi is deliberately kept separate from other ingredients. It is served with soy sauce or wasabi.
